We collaborate with skilled mindfulness instructors to provide guided meditations that address significant moments and difficulties we face throughout the year. Each in-depth session leads you through a series of steps with the aim of assisting you in developing a profound practice shaped by various viewpoints. Here are the 10 guided meditations from 2024 that our listeners frequently returned to.

The 10 Most Popular Meditations of 2024

1. Meet Difficult Emotions With Compassion

When we face challenges, simple, practical actions are often the most supportive rather than intricate techniques, says mindfulness educator and leadership coach Carley Hauck. In this session, she reassures us that it’s okay to be overwhelmed and leads us in acknowledging our bodily sensations and visualizing kindness to attain tranquility.

2. Widen Your Perspective

“In moments of stress, anxiety, irritation, or anger, our minds tend to narrow and focus on immediate challenges,” explains mindfulness expert and author Nate Klemp. This meditation encourages us to deliberately broaden our awareness by shifting our visual focus. Research indicates that relaxing our gaze rather than intensely staring can also influence our nervous system positively.

3. Embrace Your Inner Mountain

In this guided meditation, “we embody the mountain’s unwavering calm amidst life’s chaos,” says mindfulness teacher and therapist Elaine Smookler. This powerful metaphor helps us anchor ourselves in the here and now, fostering a sense of resilience and tranquility.

4. Replenish Cognitive Energy

We have a limited supply of energy for cognitive tasks such as decision-making and planning, notes researcher and meditation instructor Shalini Bahl. “If we continuously deplete this energy without replenishing it, we may feel exhausted.” This session is crafted to restore our cognitive vigor by guiding us back to our senses.

5. Act On What’s Important

“Studies indicate that we feel most energized when our actions resonate with our purpose,” emphasizes Shalini Bahl. One common challenge is that many of us lack clarity on what is truly important to us. This meditation helps to eliminate thoughts of I should, I must, and right or wrong, allowing us to “connect with the most authentic parts of ourselves.”

6. Slow Your Breath and Your Thoughts

This meditation focuses on returning to fundamentals: the breath. “By enhancing our awareness of inhalation and exhalation, we can gradually calm our minds and nervous systems. This gives us permission to pause and unwind for a few moments,” states mindfulness instructor Will Schneider. This practice can aid in relaxation, alleviating expectations, and fostering present-moment awareness.

7. Sit With Uncomfortable Feelings

Although it might seem contradictory initially, a fundamental practice in mindfulness is to embrace whatever arises—even emotions we’d prefer to avoid. “Ignoring our feelings or shutting ourselves off can prevent us from recognizing the deeper needs of those emotions or the driving values behind them…”

Clinical psychologist Diana Hill explains that meditation can help you acknowledge and respond with kindness to challenging emotions. In this practice, she encourages you to observe and cultivate compassion for any uncomfortable feelings.

8. Nurture Your Heart

This guided meditation by cardiologist Jonathan Fisher encourages you to become aware of the sensations throughout your body, “from your feet to the area surrounding your heart.” He explains that as you concentrate on various body parts, you invite softness and kindness. This meditation allows you to tune into your heart’s needs and envision filling your body with nurturing warmth.

9. Let Go of Stress and Fall Asleep

Daily stress can linger in our bodies long after the stressful event has passed, making it tough to unwind and get the restful sleep we need. In this guided meditation, mindfulness expert Kelly Boys shares that “as you breathe gently and shift your focus around your body, you’ll become aware of hidden tension. You can then allow it to release, inviting in a feeling of delightful heaviness and relaxation.”

10. Rediscover Your Essence

Mindfulness teacher Cara Bradley explains that many individuals view meditation as a way to escape from life’s chaos and noise. “While these distractions are part of our reality, we also carry a deeper essence that is calm, quiet, and profoundly relaxed.” This meditation invites you to delve beneath the surface noise of everyday life to connect with this tranquil side of yourself.
